… yet you’ve also got it all right.
Climate change is now a concept up for grabs. This is because some have been conditioning people to believe ideas that make them feel good — or excited and angry — regardless of the truth. Climate change, AKA global warming, is one such idea that is under assault.
We have an administration who values that which can be used, used up, or brazened like a trophy right this minute… but not necessarily that which can last for generations. They openly degrade common sense understanding and piles of evidence.
And I’m glad so many of you/us want to “save the planet,” but that is not actually what you’ll be saving. See, no matter what craziness we indulge in as citizens of this place. No matter how many chemicals we release into the atmosphere or waters, no matter how many bombs we blow up, or epidemics cross our shores, or hotbox conditions we exacerbate by our conveniences, our planet will in fact survive, just fine.
It is not the planet we’ll be saving by making changes, it is ourselves.
It is our children and theirs, our homesteads and best cities on the water, our middle class moments, our food supply, our millions of good souls of all classes, our legacy that will perish at the hands of those who want to utilize resources for themselves in this lifetime. Legacy be damned, because there will be few who are left to impress.
So, when you start talking about cutting greenhouse emissions, or using less electricity, or preserving open space, or funding renewable energy, you have it all wrong. You are not saving the earth.
You are saving humanity.
You are acting out of self-love.
1 Under this administration, facts and fact-driven news are also under assault, along with the EPA, business and climate change regulations, scientific research past and present, funding for public education, protections of human rights, and long-term vision.
2 Fox News & similar ‘friends,’ and outside propaga-warfare appear enemies of an empowered thinking class, and have conditioned many to eschew facts in favor of emotion-based entertainment.
