I go to the same places on the web, over and over. I keep looking for something, and I’m not sure what it is. Outrage, solace, connection, information, entertainment, I’m not sure, but I know I’m looking. My eyes are glued hours each day.
This is not helping me have a happy life. The web can suck the accomplishment out of a person. It can amp emotional level, for better or worse, it can steal time. It can breed complacency. It can lull to sleep.
But words and created images are a manifestation of the highest capabilities humans have: to communicate and to create. And here they are, in abundance, flexing in cyberspace, hooked to domains and social media accounts, and sometime, people. But they all ain’t worthy.
There was a time, when only the finest or most compelling of words and images were widely read and seen. It was expensive to print books, to paint works, to make movies, and to share and spread physical representations of “stuff.” Now any great or awful or mundane thing can be seen and heard, shared and propagated. This makes ‘great’ accessible to many, and heaps loads of garbage into many people brains too. And advertising.
So, why write about this? Why shine the light on this? What is there to do?
No answer. The Honest is I have nothing to offer but stating the obvious.
