This is some verbiage GOP Trump-backing officials can use to get free. It is time.
Dear Constituents:
I am officially and irrevocably withdrawing any support I’ve given to Donald Trump. This includes endorsements, policy support, and tepid responses to his ever-growing aberrant and dangerous stances on key social, military and economic issues.
I know many of you have supported the promise of President Trump, and I admit, I was concerned that my newly stated disposition would alienate some of you to the point of losing your votes in forthcoming elections. This is the game many politicians play, while speaking plainly— and rationally — behind closed doors. And make no mistake, the talk of President Trump’s incompetence and dangerous behavior is alive and well in the GOP, and I now realize it was a disservice to hide this from you in order to protect my own political aspirations.
So, if you are offended, angry or otherwise feel betrayed by my “turn” against Mr. Trump, and will no longer vote for me, so be it. I ask you only to engage your own conscience, rationalism, and highest values and carry on as the best American you can be. I can and will no longer stay silent while a man who exhibits abhorrent behavior and leads with divisive words, who promises simple things he cannot deliver, and who appears mentally unfit, erodes the fabric of our country.
I recognize many of you will be angered by my decision, and I only ask that you express this anger at the polls and in peaceful protest. We all know that hate speech and acts of violence are fruitless and wrong. Yet, we also know that freedom of speech is right. The purpose is to open a dialog so that the majority of Americans can discuss ideas, elect leaders and legislate with the will of the people at the forefront. I also know that those of you who voted me into office expect me to act in accordance with the law, while honestly upholding the American Way as a vigilant servant to our Constitution.
In order for me to uphold the tenants of my office, to act in the best interest of all of my constituents, and remain a trustworthy human being, I must now clearly and unequivocally renounce of the 45th President of the United States, and will hereby use the power and authority of my office to ouster him in every legal way.
Thank you,
Your GOP Senator, Representative, Governor
As your GOP Truth-to-Power GOP buddy reminds you….
