I honestly feel like many of the things everyone’s been doing with digital marketing is going to fall by the wayside very soon. I’ve been working professionally in this field for 25+ years (yes, shamelessly ho-ing for money for clients and self), and noticed some things. So I wear a few hats: marketing pro me, who knows things about the digital marketing field writ large; and avant-maker me who teaches and creates for the sheer love of it, and enjoys sharing nature, peace, beauty and wisdom.
The below post reads more like a professional post, helping others see, and perhaps even stir up business for myself. (Hey, I still need to pay some bills). Perhaps it doesn’t belong here. Maybe it especially does….
_______________
Marketing is a leveled-up version of sales, and sales is a central pillar of ‘more is better’ capitalism.
I recognize how the field of digital marketing is changing and find it notable how many folks are drinking the funnel-laced, stats-driven Koolaid. It looks delicious, but is not good for you.
Manipulative, excitable, funnel-based marketing feels uninspired and manipulative, and is annoying to the discerning.
π₯ Not everyone loves the algorithm: some prefer surprises, education, and a proper invitation.
Remember, your ad dollars first enhance a multi-billion dollar ever-expanding tech-bro machine, not always people or the planet.π₯
Things are shifting fast and there are loads of fake entities inflating numbers for the sake of getting YOU to buy more, more, more digital marketing products. Which in turn sells, and possibly manipulates more of your fans’ data across that realm.
Ever notice how much more money and time you spend on digital services than say, 10 years ago? How do you know if you are you choosing the right stuff? Are you trimming *people* to lean on tech products, machines that eat electricity and underpaid customer service β and AI βto get some magical benefit? Notice how it costs the same? Where’s your magic?
I notice trends, and with the advent of AI as an adequate brand-maker, and digital marketing available to the masses as a “thing to do,” loads more folks are selling their time, data and experience for dollars…
Instead you could choose true gifts, heart & soul integration of your work on the internet along with a natural audience, and love your freedom.
I’ve LOVED white hat sales and marketing for decades, now I see a creep of yuck in the field, hidden under mechanization and promises of efficiency. And under the influence of AI-generated content are overworked, underappreciated people, which is why it usually falls flat. Do you want to get excited at the thought of that?
I hope you don’t get caught in the trap of serving crap via machine and tech bro enclaves lacking in wisdom and care. Instead, I hope you make digital decisions on “of the moment” zeitgeist, and your soul. This way you will fare better, bringing in a higher quality of patron. Actual REAL people, not algorithmically-maneuvered masses.
It takes a human who can get tech-bro stats *but is not subject to them* to get truly good work done.
Just sayin,’ real marketing people never blow your strongest lead…
