A term of endearment post on Frequency
My social media is full of coaches, teachers, and offerings which speak to the power of manifestation using frequencies. The number of people who say they are making millions of dollars via their various mindset masterclasses1, makes me think the web-liking public desires a fast track to something other than what they’ve got. This talk of frequency also makes me wonder why we aren’t all sounding these ‘easy’ and cheap chords for happier, more fulfilling lives?
The state or fact of being frequent; often. Rate of occurrence.
Physics: the number of regularly occurring events in unit of time. The number of cycles inside unit time of a wave or oscillation.
Music: Frequency is the speed of the vibration, which determines pitch.
Metaphysics: maybe read this thing and wonder some more?
Frequencies, many of these teachers say, align you with success, pulling it toward you. So they often suggest becoming attuned to conceptual & feeling frequencies like abundance, health, love, grace, and other positives. After that (and a few quickie real-world steps), they say, you’ll manifest your dreams. After all, they say, they had fast, fabulous miracles, and are teaching them to you. Usually they look way more successful, or at least smart, because they managed to make money from what they know.
Is it just that easy? Can I just grab a xylophone and mindfully tap a C note into existence? Or mindmeld with masterclass guru and get the same results?
Yes, but…
The reason this may not work straight away, is there’s also a strong cultural/capitalistic mindset most of us live inside that says this kind of approach is ‘woo woo’ and ridiculous. And very few folks want to expose themselves to ridicule. You may know what I mean about ‘woo woo’ if you grew up being taught things like: “The only things that makes things happen, is making them happen via hard work.” Or “luck is a dividend of sweat. The more you sweat, the luckier you get.”
And in my experience, these practical mindsets and hard-work practices definitely work. And they are definitely work. As one heck of a hard worker in my life (usually 2 jobs at once), I can say this approach has born amazing fruit. Fruit not in the form of pile of money per se (because not my highest priority), but skills and breadth of understanding of the human condition, psychology, communities and systems in a capitalist society.
And we all know that if you practice something every single day, you will get good at it, even without natural aptitude or talent.
Yet, because I’ve experienced so much manifestation and serendipity I know there’s another chord sounding under my hard work/practice regime. Like the time I simply decided to re-engage as an artist, then got a surprise offer to share studio space, along with a flood of inspiration flowing through me like a river: prestissimo!
Attunement can be struck even within opposite mindsets like ‘woo woo’ and hard work. It happens when you notice yourself inside the many aspects of your rich and mysterious human experience. Then things start flowing faster in the outside world.
Weaving together strains of definition for a fuller experience of meaning
So perhaps my fun little exploration of the word “frequency” will help you see things anew and let your best internal practices manifest some good stuff for you as quickly as you can handle.
The ‘new agey’ use of the word frequency colors in mystery, a really, really practical thing: moving matter makes stuff happen. But you’ll only go so fast doing the practical steps, if your mindset practice, the ‘woo woo,’ isn’t in harmony with your actions. In other words, you need to know yourself.
Our internal practice is always as important as the steps we take in the world. So if you truly want a particular outcome, you need to get all the parts of you to hum along together.
What we practice, mentally, physically, and even professionally, is what we experience in the world. If you practice saxophone every day, you may just be able to play Coltrane Giant Steps one day, or play Mary Had A Little Lamb like a jazz badass.
Tuning into a Coltrane record can engage a gifted mindset, while practicing every day gives you a way to trust yourself to slay.
Practice yoga and cooking, you become a flexible chef. Practice self-analysis, get absorbed in yourself. Practice kindness, become kind. Practice writing, become a writer. Study how things work, learn how things work. You see what I’m saying, or maybe hear what I’m saying? lol2
If you practice kindness for instance, you’ll find yourself helping others, and almost by magic, you’ll find opportunities to be kind more. If you practice worry, you may find more fears to explore. If you practice cleaning up after others, or organizing stuff (any work from home parents feel me right now?), you’ll get opportunities to do more of the same.
Serve others, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to serve more.
What we practice inside become our ‘go to’ mindsets. These are powerful soundings in our lives, bringing things to bear that feel almost like magic. That’s the frequency thing. So if you align a few simple actions with your default mindset, you can “manifest” fast. And this is because you’ve been playing the under-chords for a long, long time.
Mindsets are like songs playing your mind.
If you practice exploration, courage, creativity, calmness…. and whatever you “frequent” in your heart, mind, and body, you’ll get good at, and immediately see the results of your practice in your world.
Because you can’t not see what your mind practices routinely, because that’s your frequent, see?
FOOTNOTES & FUN STUFF
Things I enjoyed while exploring this term anew.
Mystery Chord by the Beatles in Hard Day’s Night tapped after 40 years by math and frequency article here.
Sound makes water crystalize in certain ways, and this author addresses so many cool things including a sacred A note at 444hz (not the usual 400hz). Since I can’t summarize all his amazing waves of thinking, here’s his piece.

I love the Creative Commons image above which looks like calligraphy or twigs of a tree, but is produced by bouncing black seeds on a harpsichord soundboard. The image below is a SymbolWork that just feels like it belongs here too
- This one is going to need to go into the glossary: mindset masterclass, because really, mindsets make so much stuff happen… sometimes even effortlessly, because they make it easy to act in accordance with them. Believe you can, and you can do stuff. Believe you are stuck, and well…. ↩︎
- Honestly, I’m half writing this for my husband, who is not a fan of talking about philosophy or engineering, or consciousness, or spirituality, but he LOVES music. Maybe he’ll read this. Let me know, Honey, Okay? ↩︎
