I have a social activist friend who occasionally warns folks what words folks should use in everyday conversation. Two words in question: army and just. I believe she’s often coached by men how to roll with language and shares that knowledge downstream in the spirit of efficacy.
Perhaps word choice also helps women be more effective and appealing (in a man’s world?). Not sure I follow this line of thinking, but it does give me pause. It follows that the patriarchy would not like the matriarchy to use some words too often, lest they wind up owning them.

Perhaps everything would go a great deal better if we focused on releasing the patriarchy instead of smashing it.
