[Special note: I still have not spoken with some of the people I know who voted for Trump. I can’t look at them, so this is my rant to/for them. I sincerely hope all their children are spared from the troubles ahead, and that they choose wisely from this moment forward.]
Just because the debacle is on TV, doesn’t mean this huge awful mess isn’t real—and isn’t really going to affect everyone’s flesh-and-blood lives. It could also start a stunningly stupid war from ignorance of intelligence, take away workable health care for millions, spend deficit-tidal amounts of government money on breaks & banks that benefit crony elites, crank up prejudicial acts against everyone slightly brown or isn’t a white infowars fan, and lots, lots more. Of course, this election has already eroded American belief in the values of inclusion and dignity, the importance of the “high road” and the critical balance of powers. We have already collectively stooped to swarming over a dirty pence by stating to the world we believe money and showmanship are more important than reason, creativity and substance. It is not a virtue to act from hate of a media machine and “elites,” only to choose a more dangerous clutch of the same…
This mess is because one powerful man cannot introspect or understand anything but his own self-aggrandizement. Yet he must have been found supremely interesting to many. Why? (Does anyone really think this makes good TV. It could be waaayyyy better. Believe me.)
To those of you who voted DT, would you have him over to teach values to your kids? Really? Would you ask him to drive your teenage daughter home? Would you expect this man to somehow support your family with gifts of generosity? Why would he? Because somehow deep-down, he loves humanity? When has he actually done this (#DocumentIt)? Do you want your kids going to war over some ridiculous tweet from this guy?
Would you believe him when it REALLY matters? Do you believe him now?
IT MATTERS. NOW.
